The Safe Corner Holds
Hold the draw against perfect play
Waking the engine…
The theory
A lone bishop against rook and pawn draws when the defending king reaches the safe corner. Knowing which corner that is saves the half point every time.
Match the colors. The safe corner is the color opposite to your bishop. There the bishop guards the king's flight squares, so the rook can check forever without progress.
Refuse the wrong corner. Straying toward the corner that matches your bishop hands the attacker a winning zugzwang. Keep your king aimed at safety.
In this drill the rook and pawn will try to nudge you off course. Reach the safe corner and hold your ground.
