Winning Despite the Safe Corner
Win against perfect defense
Waking the engine…
The theory
The safe corner draws pure rook against bishop, but an extra pawn can tip the balance. The stronger side wins by combining the promotion threat with the mating net.
King and rook first. Improve your pieces before touching the pawn. A well-placed rook pins the bishop to defense while your king takes the key squares.
One threat too many. The defender cannot stop promotion and guard against mate at once. Alternating the two pressures breaks the fortress.
In this drill the opponent defends flawlessly. Coordinate all three of your forces and the pawn decides.
