Rook, Pawn, and the March to Queen
Win against perfect defense
Waking the engine…
The theory
With rook and pawn against a bishop, the winning plan is simple in outline: restrain the defender, then push the pawn with the king in support.
Cut the king off. A rook that seals a rank or file keeps the enemy king from blockading the pawn or fleeing to the drawing corner.
Escort, do not rush. Bring your own king to shepherd the pawn. Promotion cannot be stopped once the pawn has both rook and king behind it.
In this drill the bishop and king defend perfectly. Restrain first, advance second, and the pawn queens.
