Two Pawns, One Passed, Bring Them Home

Black to play and win

Play

You are a pawn up with disconnected pawns, one of them a passer. The winning method is to use rook and king together to escort the passed pawn while keeping your own king safe.

Two Pawns, One Passed, Bring Them Home

Win against perfect defense

Waking the engine…

The theory

Disconnected but decisive. When one of your pawns is a passer and you hold an extra pawn, the win comes from promoting that passer rather than from swapping material for material.

Escort, do not rush. The reliable technique is to advance the passed pawn with king and rook working together. The rook clears the file or shields the pawn while the king marches up in support.

Deny counterplay. The defender's only hope is rook activity and checks. Keep your rook placed so the enemy has no safe checking distance, and the counterplay dries up.

In this drill you are a pawn up with a passer. Coordinate the pieces, escort the pawn, and finish against tablebase-perfect resistance.
