No Breakthrough for the f- and h-Pawns

White to play and draw

Play

Your f- and h-pawns are advanced and your king and rook are active, yet the empty g-file between the pawns denies you the win. This structure holds only a draw.

No signup needed. The opponent never gives up, and every mistake gets explained.

No Breakthrough for the f- and h-Pawns

Hold the draw against perfect play

Waking the engine…

The theory

Advanced pawns are only as strong as their coordination, and a gap between them undermines everything.

Disconnected passers. Pawns on the f- and h-files cannot cover each other, so the defender divides its pieces between them.

The rook-pawn ceiling. With an h-pawn on the edge, the defender always has the corner draw in reserve.

In this drill you play the stronger side and learn to hold rather than overreach for a win that is not there.
