Holding With Knight and a Blockaded Pawn

Black to play and draw

Play

Your king sits in the corner while a knight and an extra pawn keep the balance. The defense is about coordination, not activity: keep the pieces working and the draw is secure.

No signup needed. The opponent never gives up, and every mistake gets explained.

Waking the engine…

The theory

Not every material imbalance converts. When pawns are blocked and the pieces are coordinated, a nominal advantage evaporates into a draw.

Locked files. A pawn firmly blockaded by an opposing pawn contributes nothing to a breakthrough. Recognizing dead structure lets you focus your defense elsewhere.

Knight as guardian. The knight covers its own pawn and harasses the invading king. Because it can attack and defend at once, it neutralizes attempts to zugzwang you.

In this drill the opponent probes for a weak moment. Keep king and knight linked and the position never cracks.
