Lasker's Idea: Check, Then Capture

Win against perfect defense

Waking the engine…

The theory

Lasker's idea is a famous resource in rook endings where both sides have a dangerous passed pawn.

The check first. A well-timed rook check drives the enemy king to a poor square and gains the tempo you need.

Then the capture. With that tempo, the rook swings over to win the opponent's passer before it can promote.

In this drill you execute Lasker's idea against perfect defense, eliminating the counterplay and queening your own pawn.
