One Tempo Turns the Draw Into a Win
Win against perfect defense
Waking the engine…
The theory
Tempo is everything. In rook endings with pawns on opposite wings, the side to move often decides the outcome. The same structure that only draws for one player wins outright for the other.
Stop, then push. With the move you first neutralize the enemy passer, then turn to your extra pawn. Converting a single-pawn edge means advancing king and pawn while the rook prevents counterplay.
Active rook, always. The winning plan leans on a rook that does double duty: restraining the enemy pawn and clearing the path for your own. Passive defense throws the advantage away.
In this drill you hold the initiative and the extra pawn. Play accurately and the win is real; drift and it slips back to a draw.
