When the Central Pawn Gives No Shelter

Win against perfect defense

Waking the engine…

The theory

The defender's pawn matters as much as its rook. A central pawn, unlike a rook pawn, fails to shelter the king and the position is a win for the queen.

Why it wins. With the king open on both flanks, the queen finds invasion squares the fortress setups deny her. From there, zugzwang does the work.

Expect a marathon. This is among the longest wins in queen versus rook and pawn. Improve your pieces methodically and do not force matters before the box is tight.

This drill tests patience and precision together. The defense holds every careless move, so convert one small gain at a time.
