Defending Rook and Pawn against the Queen

Hold the draw against perfect play

Waking the engine…

The theory

The weaker side in queen versus rook and pawn can hold, provided the fortress is built and maintained. As the defender, your task is discipline.

Keep the pieces together. Rook beside king, pawn guarding the squares behind. Coordinated, they leave the queen nothing to fork or skewer.

Never volunteer the split. The queen wins only if she pries the rook from the king. Refuse that and the position stays drawn.

In this drill you defend against a flawless queen. Hold the shell, watch for stalemate, and the half-point is safe.
