Pawn on the Sixth: Forcing Through
Win against perfect defense
Waking the engine…
The theory
When the pawn is only on the sixth but the attacking king is already advanced beside it, the win is available, though it takes precise handling.
The plan. Shepherd the pawn to the seventh and reach the Lucena position, where the bridge technique finishes the job.
The rook's job. Your rook both shields your king from checks and cuts the enemy king off from the file the pawn needs to promote.
In this drill the defender checks relentlessly, so advance your king into the rook's shelter and refuse to be pushed back off the sixth rank.
