When the Wrong Bishop Still Wins

White to play and win

Play

Same wrong bishop, same rook pawn, but now it wins. The difference is the defending king: it has not reached the corner, and your king is close enough to fence it out.

No signup needed. The opponent never gives up, and every mistake gets explained.

When the Wrong Bishop Still Wins

Win against perfect defense

Waking the engine…

The theory

The wrong bishop and rook pawn is only a draw when the defender reaches the corner. Deny that corner and the win returns.

The condition. If your king arrives in time to keep the enemy monarch away from the drawing corner, the pawn queens normally.

The method. Combine king and bishop to shoulder the defender aside, control the escape squares, and march the pawn up the board.

In this drill the engine races for the corner. Cut it off cleanly and precisely, or the theoretical draw slips back in.
