Bishop Stops the Connected Pawns

Hold the draw against perfect play

Waking the engine…

The theory

Connected passed pawns are the bishop's nightmare, yet a timely blockade neutralizes them.

Blockade on your color. Place the bishop in front of the pawns on a square of the color it controls, where no pawn can chase it off.

Bring the king. A bishop cannot guard both pawns indefinitely, so the king must join quickly to complete the wall.

In this drill you defend against two rolling pawns. Set the blockade early and coordinate king and bishop to hold the half point.
