Bishop Against Scattered Pawns

White to play and draw

Play

Three enemy pawns look menacing, but they are disconnected and cannot support each other. A well-placed bishop blockades one runner while the king handles the rest.

No signup needed. The opponent never gives up, and every mistake gets explained.

Bishop Against Scattered Pawns

Hold the draw against perfect play

Waking the engine…

The theory

A bishop fears connected passed pawns, but disconnected pawns are a far more manageable problem.

Why split pawns are weak. With no pawn defending another, the bishop can attack or blockade each in turn without being chased away by a supporting pawn.

Share the work. Use the bishop's long range to freeze one runner and the king to round up the others. Coordination is everything.

In this drill the engine pushes hard for a breakthrough. Keep the pawns split and the pieces working together to hold the draw.
