The Same Position, One Tempo Saves You
Hold the draw against perfect play
Waking the engine…
The theory
The same locked structure can be a win or a draw depending on a single tempo. When it is the defender to move, correct king play holds.
The tempo matters. With the move in hand, the defending king can occupy the key defensive square first and keep the opposition against the invader.
Corresponding squares. Match the enemy king so its every advance meets a reply that guards the pawn. Avoid the mined squares that would surrender the opposition.
In this drill the attacker probes flawlessly. Stay on the corresponding squares and secure the draw.
