Corresponding Squares on Defense

Black to play and draw

Play

The pawns are locked and only the kings maneuver. You defend by tracking corresponding squares so that the enemy king can never find a moment to break in.

No signup needed. The opponent never gives up, and every mistake gets explained.

Corresponding Squares on Defense

Hold the draw against perfect play

Waking the engine…

The theory

When the pawns are frozen, the outcome depends on a hidden map: each square for one king corresponds to a specific square for the other.

Read the pairs. Work out which of your squares answers each enemy king square. Hold the correct pairing and you always have a safe reply.

No wandering. Straying from the correspondence, even to win a pawn, breaks the system and lets the enemy king penetrate.

In this drill the attacker knows the map cold. Match every move on the corresponding square and hold the draw.
