Triangulation Near the Passed Pawn

Win against perfect defense

Waking the engine…

The theory

When your king and passed pawn dominate but you have the move, triangulation converts the extra tempo into a breakthrough.

Pass the move. By walking your king around a three-square triangle, you reach the same key square with the opponent to move instead of yourself.

The defender cracks. Lacking a matching waiting move, the enemy king must leave the promotion square or the opposition, and your pawn advances.

In this drill the defense is perfect. Time the triangulation and promote the pawn.
